Mission
Statement
The mission of the library media program is to ensure that students
and staff are effective users of ideas and information. The services
provided are designed to empower students to become independent, life-long
learners able to function in a changing world. The collection includes
a variety of materials to promote and encourage reading for pleasure as
well as for information.
Expectations
The library media center program will:
- Provide an active instructional role in teaching library and information
skills as they relate to the curriculum
- Provide open access to a variety of materials representing various points
of view allowing students to become informed users of information
- Provide availability and access to information for all students and staff
- Provide assistance with computer use and multimedia production
- Provide reading guidance
- Work to build a sense of community where all are learners
- Maintain an atmosphere of trust, respect, and caring
- Promote continued growth through lifelong learning
- Encourage independent thinking and reading
- Provide a collection which support the curriculum of the school
- Provide a safe, clean facility with adequate physical resources
- Maintain a qualified staff
- Use technology as a vehicle for increasing productivity and access
to information
- Provide a "print rich" collection
- Maintain a useful and informative library portal on the school's website
Important
Information
- Hours – 6:45 AM – 4:00 PM (unless I have a meeting)
- No food or drinks (except water)
- Library cards
- Every student has a unique library account
- You MUST check out every book or magazine before
taking it out of the library
- Books can be checked out for a 3 week period and can
be renewed if not on reserve for another patron
- Magazines can be checked out for a 2 week period
- You are responsible for returning all materials on
time and in the same condition
- Do not check out books for someone else – The person
who checks material out is the responsible party

Technology
The library has fifteen networked computers.
Computer access is available for those who have a signed Acceptable
Use Policy form (AUP) on file in the library. Students have individual accounts and passwords.
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, FrontPage, PowerPoint, and Publisher),
Inspiration, and Choices (career software) are available on
every computer.
From the library Web site, students
may access online subscriptions including EBSCO, a database of full-text articles from periodicals and
other reference sources. A subscription to Grolier Online provides access
to full-text articles from Encyclopedia Americana and Grolier Multimedia
Encyclopedia. return to top of page
The
Collection
The Sanborn Regional High School Library offers a wide range of resources
in a variety of formats. The collection consists of approximately 10,000
volumes including books, DVDs, audio and video tapes. We also
subscribe to a variety of periodicals.
Patrons may search the collection
by keyword, title, author, or subject from any school computer using the
library
catalog.
Fiction books are arranged on the shelf in alphabetical order by the author’s
last name. Non-fiction books are assigned a Dewey Decimal catalog
number and arranged in numerical order in the non-fiction area.
