¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! Welcome to a wonderful new year! I have developed the following guidelines that will be used in our classroom. Please read them carefully, and share them with your parents.

 Academic Responsibilities:

1.       Preparation:         - Bring the following material to every class:

·         binder with paper and dividers, verbs flashcards (more info to come)

·         Spanish-English dictionary highly recommended, pens, pencils

  - Please note that you may not return to your locker once the bell has rung

- Be in your seat, ready to work, when the bell rings.

2.        Tardies:              - Sanborn Regional High School policy will be enforced (refer to student handbook)

3.       Homework:           - Completed and on your desk when the bell rings earns full credit.

·         No late homework will be accepted if the student has not been absent

·         Incomplete HW at the beginning of class will be accepted for half credit. Will not receive any credit if I notice that it has been done minutes before class or while I am checking or picking up HW. Please do not argue. Any situation arising about HW should be dealt with after class.

4. Make-up work:      - Is your responsibility!

- For excused absences only. Students have three school days for each absence to make up HW

- See me after class to schedule a time to make-up quizzes and tests

5.  Binder:                     - A 2” 3-ring binder is required and will be checked periodically throughout the year as part of your grade

- It will hold all of your quizzes, handouts, homework, notes, etc

- To organize, you will need the following 6 dividers: Bellwork, Apuntes (notes), Vocabulario, Tarea (homework), Cultura (information about countries and miscellaneous), Pruebas (test and quizzes).  A Collins folder will be provided for your journal entries. You will receive an additional handout on this topic

-You will loose points if it is disorganized or messy. The binder is exclusively for Spanish.

6. Extra-Credit:          - In order to be eligible for Extra Credit you must meet a certain criteria.

                                    - Will not help you pass if you are failing

- Ask me for an “Extra-Credit Guidelines” handout

7. Extra Help-Tutoring:  See me to schedule an appointment – Tutoring is available Tuesdays after school.

Personal Responsibilities:

1.       You will respect and be courteous to your teacher and your partners.

2.       Be positive and cooperative.

3.       Use the drinking fountain, restrooms and pencil sharpener before the bell rings.

You have six passes per semester.  Each is worth 5 extra credit points. Use them wisely.

Student Conduct:

All Sanborn Regional High School discipline code will apply in our class. No food or hats allowed in class. Only water! Disruptive or disturbing behavior that prevents other students from learning will not be tolerated.

1.       Please, speak when it is your turn.  Talking while the teacher is talking is rude and disruptive.  Raise your hand and wait to be called upon to speak.

2.        Remain in your seat unless otherwise instructed. You are not automatically dismissed when the bell rings.  I will dismiss you when the floor is cleared of all papers and the desks are in order.

3.   No arguing

4.         Follow instructions the first time they are given.  I will raise my hand as a signal to be quiet. Lack of cooperation will result in remaining in class when the bell rings.

Consequences:

The following consequences are cumulative. I will keep notes of your behavior. If you choose to break the rule(s) these are the consequences:

1.       Verbal Warning.

2.       2nd warning. Detention during the first 10 minutes of lunch.  Work with Mr. Kinsley on behavior plan. You may be assigned to assist Mr. Kinsley on cleaning duties.

3.       3rd verbal warning. Detention time will be double. Telephone call to parents.

4.       Conference with parents

5.       No show for detention, you will be automatically referred to the discipline office.

Detention also results in the lowering of the citizenship grade by one-half grade for each occurrence.

Severe Clause: Sent to Discipline Office in extreme cases without using any of the consequences stated above.
