SPANISH I Instructional Outcomes 1. Spanish I is designed to develop basic skills in listening comprehension, oral expression, and elementary reading and writing. 2. The student will learn about the different countries and cultures that make up the Hispanic world, and some traditions and celebrations. 3. Make the course an enjoyable experience for the student studying Spanish for the first time.

Tentative Course Outline1. At the beginning of this class the student will be introduced to basic expressions in Spanish including names, greetings, colors seasons, days of the week, weather expressions, classroom vocabulary, numbers 1-30 and telling time. 2. The alphabet and Spanish pronunciation will also be introduced and then reinforced throughout the semester. 3. The course will cover approximately one chapter every one or two weeks and one Unit every three to five weeks. 4. There will be at least two projects, which will be due during the semester. Time will be scheduled during class for the use of the computer lab but some of the project work will be completed at home. 5. A final exam will be given during final exam week. Steps for Student Success 1. Review class work at home daily. 2. Ask the instructor questions regarding lessons you did not understand or missed. 3. Complete all written assignments on time. 4. Do not wait until the last minute to get prepared for tests and quizzes.
