"It is the duty of every cultured man or woman to read sympathetically the scriptures of the world. If we are to respect others' religions as we would have them respect our own, a friendly study of the world's religions is a sacred duty."

-Ghandi-

Students will be reading The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho and studying World Religions

Activities will include:

  • Reading and writing about The Alchemist
  • Reading and writing about World Religions
  • Exploring the following religions: Islam, Muslim, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Taoism
  • Geography of Asia and Middle East

The Alchemist is a wonderful fable about a shepherd boy, Santiago, who leaves Spain and travels to Egypt in search of wisdom from the Alchemist and treasures in the pyramids.  What he learns along the way will inspire all students to think about what their dreams are and how they might achieve them.

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

--from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
