This thematic unit will continue the study of government through the Judicial System and and overview of Civil Rights while reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Activities will include:

  • Reading and writing about To Kill a Mockingbird
  • Examining the structure of the Judicial System
  • Learning about the historical context of the novel and the Scottsboro Boys
  • Overview of Civil Rights Movement

 

 

 

Scout Finch narrates the story of To Kill A Mockingbird.  She and her brother Jem live in Alabama with their father Atticus, a lawyer.  He defends a black man, Tom Robinson, and Jem and Scout watch as the town deals with the effects of racism.
