The Lord of the Flies is always a student favorite.
William Golding tells a tale of young boys stranded on a deserted
island. They must decide how to survive and how to get along
without any adult supervision or adult leadership. What type of
government will they form on this island? A democracy or a dictatorship?
"Roger gathered a handful of stones and
began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six
yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet
strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the
protection of parents and school and policemen and the law." from

Big
Mouth, Ugly Girl is a story about Matt and Ursula, two high
school students whose paths cross after an incident at their high
school. Many assumptions are made about each of these
characters, and through the attention given to them, they learn
about acceptance and tolerance. |
