Living in a democratic United States, it is important for students to understand the foundations of democracy throughout history as well as continue the study of government and the structure of democracy today.

Activities for this unit include:

  • Study of Ancient Greece- where democracy began
  • Comparison of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome
  • Reading The Odyssey by Homer
  • Study and discussion of the literature
  • Examining all we have learned from the Ancient Greeks and Romans that we still use today.

 

 

The Odyssey tells of Odysseus' journey home to Ithaca after fighting in the Trojan War. He has been gone for ten years!  Students enjoy the supernatural adventures he encounters through his interactions with Gods and Goddesses.
