MEMORIAL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
June 13,
2008
Dear Parents and
Students,
As
the 2007-2008 school year comes to a close, on behalf
of all the staff of Memorial School, I would like to offer our greatest thanks
to each of you for all you have done for the students and staff of Memorial
this year . . . and every year. Thank
you, Memorial Parents and Friends, for your ever-present encouragement and
support. I consider it a privilege to
have been part of such a wonderful school community!
As
we head for the finish line, it is with a touch of sadness that Memorial School
says farewell to a couple of “B.B.s”!
Bruce
Butterworth has designed, developed and continuously improved the physical
education and health programs at Memorial School for the last 21 years! It would be difficult to list all of Mr.
Butterworth’s contributions and accomplishments of more than two decades – it
would make this newsletter more of an epic tale! But thousands of students and their parents
have had their lives touched by this incredibly talented and dedicated
educator. Bruce has been a professional with a vision for success for every student
during his years at Memorial. His
commitment, hard work, and drive to always do “what’s best for kids” is a rich legacy to leave to Memorial. His sense of humor and
fun-filled spirit have put smiles on the faces of students and staff for
years! We thank you, Bruce, for truly
making a difference in the lives of so many.
Thank you for being our wonderful colleague.
It
is with very mixed emotions that I, the other “B.B.,” prepare this final
newsletter of the school year. “Mixed”
because there is a sense of excitement and delight on the part of the students
anticipating the long-awaited summer – yet knowing this is my final time I
shall put pen to paper to do a Memorial newsletter.
On
behalf of my wonderful wife, Ellen, and my great kids, Sarah and Kevin, I would
like to thank the incredibly dedicated staff of Memorial School, you – the most
caring and supportive parents, and, of course, the absolute best students in
the world for the most fabulous eight years ever! It does seem like yesterday that I walked up
the Memorial sidewalk for the first time.
I feel blessed to have been part of Memorial School and the Sanborn
Community and I shall always be grateful for the opportunities you gave me to
help be part of many exciting changes in the District.
I
felt so fortunate to be part of the Memorial Day Remembrance Program and to
share in the “salute” to the Newton veterans.
The extra special acknowledgment at the end is a moment I shall cherish
forever. I thank you, Students and
Staff, Parents and Friends, so very much for that incredible tribute.
I
would like to extend special thanks to my two “co-pilots” who inspired me daily
and from whom I learned and shared the true meaning of unconditional caring and
love for kids . . . Jon Vander Els and Jenn
Pomykato. I have had the great fortune
of working with very qualified, dedicated, and compassionate Memorial staff
members. It truly has been an honor for
me to work with such devoted colleagues who really understand the meaning of
connecting with kids!
Congratulations
to Mr. Vander Els and Ms. Donna Johnson, the new leadership team at Memorial
School. I know that their shared belief
that “Children First” will resound through Memorial hallways for many years to
come. I offer them my very best wishes
always!
There
are new and very exciting curricular improvements and educational initiatives
on the horizon. We, the Memorial staff, are
very proud of our Memorial School Community and extremely appreciative of your
constant support and encouragement.
May
you and your families have a sensational summer, filled with good health and
relaxing activities.
And with my deepest gratitude, I shall take my leave heeding the sage
advice of my wonderful mother, who always told her five children, “Never say
‘Good-Bye’ – just say, ‘See You Later!’”
Sincerely,
Brian N. Buckley
Principal

LUNCH ACCOUNTS
As we wrap up yet another wonderful school year we
would like to remind you to check with the cafeteria regarding your child(ren)s lunch accounts. Please feel free to send a note or call the
cafeteria (382-3326) to make sure their accounts are current. Thank you!
DRESS CODE
Now that the warmer weather is setting in, we’d
like to give a quick reminder to our students to continue to remember their own
safety in what they wear to school. One
student who wore beach ‘flip flops’ to school this week was treated for a minor
foot injury after running through the wood chips on the playground. To avoid such accidents, we request wearing
safer footwear. Thank you very much.

BIKE RIDERS
If your
child will be riding his/her bike to and from school, please remember to send
in a note. If a student rides his/her bike to school
without a note, a parent will be called and required to come to the school to
pick up the bicycle. Also, please remember that all students are
required by law to wear a bike helmet in New Hampshire.
