Hi! I am Kermit! I am an African Clawed Frog and I am 7 1/2 years old. |

I have already had some amazing adventures in my short life. I started out
as an egg in a laboratory in the midwest of the United States in May of
2000. Shortly after my egg was formed, I was shipped to an amazing school
called Memorial Elementary School in Newton, NH. After the long journey, I
was put in a tank in a first grade classroom in Mrs. Raskow's room. Cute,
little (they looked big to me!) boys and girls watched me daily as I
changed from an egg, to a tadpole, to a frog. It took about a month and a
half. The boys and girls drew pictures and wrote about me. It made me feel
very important. I tried to always look and perform my best for them! It
wasn't always easy getting along with the other frogs like me but I learned
some social skills that helped. I learned to swim away when someone said or
did something I didn't like. I also learned that once I had time to cool off
I could let the other frog know how I was feeling. It seemed to work well in
the tank. |
 |
Even though I have claws on my feet I have never used them when I am angry!
|
|
At the end of the school year, I got a new owner, Mr. Buckley! He took me
home for his son and I lived with his family for two years. He fed me and
made sure that I had clean water to swim in. He was a very nice owner!
|
|
| I was
however a little surprised when he told me that I would be moving. I wasn't
sure if I had done something to offend him or whether my brownish, gray
color was too dull for him. I hoped that he wasn't giving me away to replace
me for one of those albino frogs. I think I am much more fascinating!
|
| Luckily,
all of the worrying was for nothing. I moved to the BASICS room back
at Memorial School. A teacher there, Ms. Fitta, collects frogs that don't
move (boring!) and thought it would be fun to adopt me. I have proved to be
well worth the difficult adoption procedures. |
| The teachers in the
BASICS room got me a nice big tank. It has brightly colored rocks, plants,
bubbles and lots of space |
 |
|
| to swim, bob and cruise
around in. |
| Mr. Buckley still comes
to visit . He said |
| that it
looked likeI had moved into the Ritz Carlton for frogs! I like it!
|
 |
I
recently acquired a new, old, beat up car to swim around in. I particularly
like to hide in the trunk and windows. In the summer, I still vacation in Newton, not far from the school. Ben, Briana, Dylan and Zachary help take care of me. |
| They have a lot more
animals then they used to but it makes the days go by faster. |
| I am
excited to be back in the BASICS classroom. There are new kids who come to |
| visit me and everyday is
different! |
