Volunteer Opportunities

VICE PRESIDENT Act as aide to the president; and shall perform the duties of the president in the absence or inability of that officer to serve.
SECRETARY Maintain official records for
the PTA. Take minutes of all PTA
meetings and distribute written copies at subsequent meetings. Send electronic
file to PTA webmaster. Receive and report mail addressed to PTA, and correspond
as needed on behalf of PTA. Send
cards and/or gifts to staff or PTA members on occasions of illness, family
death, etc.
TREASURER Receive all funds on behalf of
PTA, maintain PTA bank account, pay bills and reimburse members for expenses,
provide a report at monthly PTA meetings, prepare annual budget and financial
report.
VOLUNTEER
COORDINATOR Solicit parent volunteers and
match them with needs of PTA committees and needs as expressed by school staff
and administration. Solicit parent
volunteers for room parent positions.
Maintain volunteer database, distribute names to event chairs and
subcommittees. Position coordinates volunteers for the membership drive,
hospitality and room parents.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
CHAIR
Coordinate events that encourage community involvement with the Bakie
school. Liaison to school board and
community. Work with administration
and staff to plan and organize informational meetings for parents. Position
coordinates volunteers for the newsletter, publicity, PTA bulletin
board, directory, web-site, Bulletin Board
ENRICHMENT CHAIR Coordinate enrichment
activities for students, including after-school programs, assemblies,
Artist-in-Residence, school assemblies such as Techsploration, Outback
Bill. etc. Position coordinates
volunteers for Destination Imagination and Reflections
FUNDRAISING CHAIR Coordinates the distributors, selects the lines to be sold, publicize the events, send out sales packets, coordinate volunteers to assist in processing orders, collect money, distribute merchandise to purchasers. Position coordinates volunteers Box Tops 4 Education, Cartridge & Cell Phone Recycling Program, Pizzeria UNO Family Nights and similar activities, Paper Drives and Book Fairs.
BLUE RIBBON AWARD: A volunteer is needed to prepare the submission to Partners In Education for the award. The Blue Ribbon School Achievement Award is presented to New Hampshire schools that demonstrate outstanding volunteerism. This includes elementary and secondary public schools, as well as New Hampshire private schools. Students, parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, and community members generously share their time and talents with New Hampshire’s schools. Their contributions significantly enhance the well being of New Hampshire schools and provide many valuable resources to our students.
BOOK FAIR: The PTA schedules two book fairs, one in the fall and one in the spring. Volunteers help set up, work as cashiers, and take down the display at the end of the fair. The Book Fairs give parents and children the opportunity to purchase outstanding books. The event features the sale of books and related materials with the goal of providing monies for the PTA general fund, free books for the school and teachers and an opportunity to involve the community in the purchase of books.
BOX TOPS 4 EDUCATION: This is a great way to help the PTA and work at home. Collect Box Tops from designated locations. Trim and count Box Tops and send to appropriate company for reimbursement. Plan and organize fun collection activities and contests for students.
BULLETIN BOARD: A volunteer will decorate the PTA bulletin board with current events, PTA news, announcements, notices, etc. Use your artistic abilities and showcase your talents!
CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS: This is a great way to help the PTA and work at home. Collect labels from designated locations. Trim and count labels and send to appropriate company for reimbursement. Plan and organize fun collection activities and contests for students.
CARTRIDGE & CELL PHONE RECYCLING: This is a great way to help the PTA and work at home. Collect cartridges and cell phones from designated locations. Send to appropriate company for reimbursement.
DESTINATION IMAGINATION: (See Ms. Klemarczyk for more information)
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS DIRECTORY: Volunteers will work with the Memorial PTO to collect and compile directory information from Bakie families and staff, solicit advertisements, collect advertising fees and account to PTA Treasurer, distribute directory and send thank-you letters to businesses.
HEALTH SCREENING DAY: Calling all health-care professionals! Volunteers are needed to help the School Nurse give various health related tests or provide backup in the Nurse’s Office during the screenings. The schedule would generally be two hours per week from November through May.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL: These family nights are great! Volunteers are needed for set up, solicit donations, serve ice cream, organize the event, and clean up.
INTRAMURALS: This is a great volunteer opportunity. Once a week for 8 week sessions that start in September and April, a teacher provides after-school activities at all grade levels. Just one hour per week is required for this very rewarding and fun opportunity.
LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER: Volunteers are needed to work in the library and media center. Reshelf books, clerical work and computer work.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: Organize annual membership drive; collect dues and account to PTA Treasurer, prepare report to NH PTA; update membership directory; distribute membership cards.
NEWSLETTER: Collect and prepare stories for quarterly newsletter. Copy and distribute newsletter to students and staff.
PAPER DRIVE: A great Bakie fundraiser, with very dedicated volunteers! A volunteer is needed to send notices to publicity coordinator and webmaster. Several volunteers are needed to heave paper and boxes into trucks.
PUBLICITY: Assist chairpersons of various PTA events by preparing press releases for the Carriage Towne News, preparing and distributing posters and assisting with general PTA publicity efforts. Work with Bakie staff to advertise events in the Bakie Buzz.
READ ACROSS AMERICA: Volunteers are needed to recruit community volunteers to read to students; make name tags; organize volunteers to greet community and send thank you letters to community readers.
READING TUTOR: Give a child some extra attention! Volunteers read to students on an individual basis twice a week for 30 minutes per session. The Bakie Reading Specialist will conduct three reading workshops throughout the year where you will gain valuable insight on reading strategies. Reading tutors are a dedicated group of volunteers, but the rewards are immeasurable!
REFLECTIONS: Is a National PTA arts competition with an annual theme that runs from November to January. Students use visual arts, photography, music or writing to express the theme. Volunteers are needed to promote competition at Bakie, collect and display the students’ work, arrange for judging, award prizes, pass winners on to the district and state level competition and publicize results.
ROOM PARENT: A great program at the Bakie School! A room parent is a parent that will work with their child’s teacher to coordinate classroom parties, organize needed classroom volunteers and help pass on important classroom and PTA information to the families of the students in their child’s classroom.
SENIOR CITIZEN HOLIDAY FEAST: Volunteers will plan and organize this event with school administration. They will set up tables, serve food and clean up.
SPAGHETTI DINNER: A wonderful Bakie tradition! Volunteers are needed for set up, solicit donations, prepare and serve food, organize and publicize the event, and clean up.
TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION: We love our Bakie staff! Staff appreciation is a yearlong event! Share in recognizing and thanking the staff. Volunteers make arrangements for and/or provide items for breakfasts and lunches for the staff, and plan many other ways to let the Bakie staff know how much we value them and the time they spend teaching and working with our children.

VOLUNTEERS ON CALL: Volunteers are needed at times throughout the year to help with clerical duties, like stapling and running copies or helping with fund-raisers. Or donations may be needed for Bakie staff or family activity nights. Help a single time or every time – it’s up to you! As a "General Volunteer", you may be called on when the need arises.
WEB-SITE: Develop a format for providing communication and information to the community regarding PTA programs, events and activities via the PTA page of the SRSD web-site.
WORK AT HOME: From time to time, there are things that need to be done that can be done at home, like phoning people, or cutting out items. Volunteers sign up to work from home on an "on call" basis. When the need arises, you’ll be called!
